The 1980s were boom years in construction. In this decade the Grollo Group and its faithful employees were to build some of Melbourne's most iconic structures – including the landmark Rialto Towers.

The Rialto, Shell Building, World Congress Centre and the Grand Hyatt are all remarkable and distinctive buildings that added quality, innovation and style to the CBD.

As Melbourne's skies filled with cranes, the Grollo business thrived and its workforce grew to more than 1,000. In the late 1980s Grocon was formed as the construction and development arm of the Grollo Group. The Grollos began to combine construction, property development and ownership. The Group also continued to construct regional and metropolitan shopping centres.

By the end of this decade Grocon was synonymous with technical expertise, quality workmanship and successful project completion on time and to budget. They were part of Melbourne's history and future and they were beginning to make inroads in Sydney.
